We went to Scarywood Oct. 24th and this is my review -
Well, I had modest hopes for this considering it was the first year for SW to do such an event. I have to say that I was surprised how good it was! We arrived at 5:30 p.m. and quickly got our tickets and went into the park. We went to the first showing of Nick Norton's magic show at 6:00 p.m. and it was VERY crowded - standing room only! In fact there were so many people there that a lot of people were standing watching the show as the theater ran out of seats. I wondered what the capacity of the building was and what would happen if the fire marshal saw the amount of people crammed inside! Anyway, a good show but if you have seen Nick's show before then you could probably pass on this and head for the other attractions. After the show we headed over to the haunted train ride. There was already a long line but we hoped that we could get on the first train out - NOT! We got up to the front of the line and the train was full - we would have to wait another 45 minutes or so for the next train! When we finally got on the train I wasn't expecting much but it was a pretty good attraction. SW themed the ride very well with a couple of times my group actually jumped out of there seats. The audio was great while you traveled into the woods and by many different scary sets. Considering this was the first year, it will only get better next season.
Next was the haunted walk through. After the train we rushed toward the back of the park to get in line and WOW - what a line it was! We timed ourselves and it took a little over an hour to get to the front. Well worth it though as the walk through was really great! Not very scary but well staffed and well themed. After we got done we headed over to Tremors and took a ride in the darkness - Tremors was running really fast due to the cold - it was a crisp 35 out!
OK - here our my complaints. Three hours is hardly enough time to see all 3 haunted attractions and still go on some of the rides. We got there early for the 6 o'clock magic show and still had time to only ride Tremors 1 time before all the rides closed at 10:00 p.m. NOT GOOD! Also, SW oversold on the tickets - they were only going to pre-sell 1600 tickets to keep lines down but there were over 4000 people in the park that night - NOT GOOD! (If you are wondering how I know this then read more of my review)
While we were in line for Tremors, Nick Norton was in front of us with some friends (actually, 2 of his assistance and I think the lighting guy for his show) We talked to him for a while and he gave us some inside info on what will come next year. He said that there will be 2 new haunted attractions. A haunted house and another maze! He also said that they are working on putting in a interactive dark ride that is open all year around - YAHHH! He went into great detail on what it would be like and it sounds awesome! He also said that there were 4000 people in the park tonight and that was too many! I agreed with him but he said that next year with the addition of the 2 new attractions, the lines will not be as long! I kind of wounder if that will be true as I think SW will just allow more people in the front gate! I asked Nick if SW was going to put anything new in for the summer season and he said NO! SW is going to focus on the Halloween Haunt for the next year but the new dark ride is a possibility!
Well, that is my review - I enjoyed it greatly and my group had a great time. I can't wait for next year as it will only get better!
