It will be interesting to see how 2011 turns out, that is for sure. I believe Nick will do a great job as he seems to have a knack for high-calliber entertainment. However, he clearly has some big shoes to fill based on last year's Scarywood.
If Scarywood keeps growing and succeeding, I've got to think that there will be a need for more and more mazes, etc. Gore Galore seems like a classy organization (especially based on their comments on this thread) and I don't doubt they will be involved again in the future. I'm sure Silverwood knows they were a huge part of what made Scarywood 2010 such a success.

It looks like Scarywood is starting to kick into gear, over on the parks website on the events and deals page it now has a link to Scarywood's site. www.scarywoodhaunt.com/Also, it looks like there's a change in the hours of operation for the two Thursday nights. Instead of being from 6:30pm to 10:00pm, it's now been increased to 6:30pm to 12:00am! Finally, while the full site of Scarywood isn't up yet...it does leave this little teaser besides mentioning to sign up for the newsletter. "We are already getting ready for Scarywood Haunted Nights this October. Sign up below to receive special offers & info on the event including this year's NEW attraction." Now the question is, what could it possibly be? A new attraction replacing a existing one? (eg. Terror Canyon Trail, or Blood Bayou (Don't see that happening just yet if it's on the permanant side.)) . A new theme for the train? (It's been changed up every year so far.) A scare zone? Or possibly another maze? It should also be interesting to see how soon the updates will happen, since so far the info has come a little early. Last year the teaser came on August 6th, with the site going live on the 16th and the name reveal for Blood Bayou late in the month.

I was at the park yesterday and saw a lot of digging going on along the train tracks in the woods. I also heard a rumor about Silverwood branching out for winter events from one of the employees. I will be posting my trip report later tonight with some pictures as well.

^A few years back they did say they wanted to do a Christmas/Holiday event but obviously so far that hasn't panned out. Maybe this rumor you heard is indication that they plan to do it in the (relatively) near future?...

I do remember that back in 2004 they certainly planned for a Christmas event, they even had the Ice Palace all taped up with path and room markings for some kind of walk through or Santa meet and greet.
With the success of Scarywood, I can understand them bringing back the ideas of having a Christmas event.

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over and that Scarywood will be here soon. I know that I have been harsh on the Norton's creative direction for Scarywood this year, but I still have enjoyed being able to participate in the event and I hope nothing but the best for Silverwood's classis Halloween event known as Scarywood.
I was bored today and I brainstormed some ideas of what I think would be a fun collection of attractions and scare zones for Scarywood 2011.
Storyline: The battle between the soul protecting Grim Reapers and the soul devouring Soul Takers comes to the mining town of Silverwood this Halloween season. Will the Grim Reapers be able to thwart the plans of the Soul Takers or will the Soul Takers be able to surge the power of the Army of Darkness by feasting on the souls of the citizens of Silverwood?
Haunted Attractions
Scarywood Scare Tour (Train) - This year the train would just be a tour of the park with some small scenes in the woods, but no actors beside the tour guide would be used for this attraction.
Psyclown Caverns (Thunder Canyon) - After performing at the Main Street Theater, the Laughing Out Loud Traveling Clowns crashed their carriage during a stormy night forcing them to seek refuge in the treacherous Thunder Canyons. The clowns were soon driven insane by the nightmare elements of the canyon and now crave to show their victims that dying is no laughing matter.
Monsters Encountered: Clowns, mad monkeys, tortured mimes, rock monsters, spiders, Soul Takers, nightmare creatures.
Scenes: Laughter turns to Cries maze, No Laughing Matter, Monkey Madness, Spider Cove, heck Canyon, The Last Laugh
Masquerade Massacre (Former Ice Palace) - Grim and Mercy Morgue, the morticians of the town of Silverwood; celebrate Halloween by inviting the citizens of Silverwood to their home for a Halloween themed masquerade ball. The Soul Takers have decided to bring along some special guests as they raise the dead and invade the festive party to raise some heck.
Monsters Encountered: Zombies, Ghouls, Grave Diggers, Frightened Party Guests, Soul Takers, Mutated Forest Animals, Swamp Monsters, Cannibals Scenes: Silverwood Cemetery maze, the Silver Woods, The Morgue Plantation House, The Silver Swamp.
Scare Zones
The Bizarre Bazaar (Country Carnival) - Chadwick Hitchcraven, founder of the Bizarre Bazaar , has had his fraudulent creatures brought to life by the Soul Takers and are now free to unleash their fury.
Blood Shadows (RCA) - Vampires lurk in the shadows seeking to quench their thirst.
Midnight Fright Street (Main Street) - Ghost and zombie cowboys, scarecrows, pumpkin people, grave diggers, skeletons and ghouls wonder the streets searching for new victims.

I'm thinking the "new attraction" is going to be something completely separate from the others - rather than just a re-work of one of the three from last year. They changed up the train last year and it wasn't really pitched as a "brand new attraction". I'm hoping it's something with the log flume, but that may be a bit of a stretch. Glad to see they're doing something new though - that will be awesome, and I can't wait to hear more about it! My guess is it will be something in the picnic pavilion area - that just seems like a prime spot to set up a good maze or walk through. Monkeybeast...very interesting ideas. The thing I like most about them is that they're all completely different from what's already been done, and that is a key element to a good theme park haunt, I think. Terror Canyon HAS to be re-themed this year to something completely different; or at least change up the layout of the walk-through - three years in a row of the same old tricks is not going to be a good thing at all. The park during the regular season can do just fine by having things be mostly the same from year to year with minor changes, but you can't do that with Halloween attractions. Otherwise, it's way too predictable, and you lose a lot of the scare factor. This event attracts mostly locals who have probably been to one of not both of the previous years Scarywood events, and I for one will probably be yawning at the end of Terror Canyon if it's not different this year. Just my two cents, though.

I too am guessing the Pinic Pavilion could be the location for a new maze, it might be a little tricky due to how the pavilions are spread apart...but it's certainly do-able. I can also see the enterance/exit points being the enterance to the pavilion and out the back end of the area which is not too far away from Aftershock's pathway.
As for the log flume, while I'd love to see it turn haunted...I just don't see that happening unless the Log Flume itself get's a major re-vamp. There's not that many spots for actors to be positioned in it's current state.
Since Monkeybeast has been putting out his ideas, I figure I can share my own as well.
Scare Zone
Total Fallout/Destruction Alley/Choas Alley (RCA) - This would pretty much be a apocalyptic, Mad Max, junkyard, war zone. A area of twisted metal, wrecked cars, fire and of course rock and heavy metal music. Full of mutant freaks, zombies, military. It's all very fitting for a section of the park which is noisy due to the coasters, PP and Skydiver.
Mazes
Route 66/Hills Have Eyes Theme (Thunder Canyon) - With a section of the road blocked off, guests have to traverse through the canyon to safety. However along the way they encounter some not so friendly locals who hope they'll stay.
Scenes - Diner with eerie locals, Biker Bar/Hangout with "beastly/demonic" bikers, and a junkyard/old nucular test facility with good ol' crazed mutants.
Welcome Home (Ice Palace or new warehouse built backstage) - For this theme I'm running with the plain Norman Rockwell house that hides plenty of secrets. The family is certainly off-kilter, and they all keep mentioning that "Daddy's Watching You".
Scenes - Living room with manniquins watching a old fashioned tv, the daughters room which is chock full of twisted dolls/stuffed animals. Halfway through the house is a closet which takes guests inside the walls in a secret passage...along the way they'll come by peep holes/windows looking into other rooms of the house. It all leads up to the inner sanctum, where Daddy spends most of his time with various friends. Apparently Daddy is quite a beast, Alpha to be exact...and he does love aquiring new pets.
Lupus Meats (Picnic Pavilion/Ice Palace/New Warehouse) - While vampires have clubs/raves to go to for new blood, I figure that slaughterhouses are perfect for werewolves. Since they have no problem picking ones bones clean, they'd fit right in a workplace such as this.
Scenes - Pretty much anything you'd find in a slaugherhouse maze. Smoker, plenty of hanging meat, hanging bodies, meat locker, freezer etc.
Camp FERAL (Pinic Pavilion) - A camp theme is certainly a perfect fit for the location, however instead of masked murders terrorizing the camp...a pack of werewolves and possibly other "weres" would be creating plenty of havoc. (Though I will admit, as a gag I would certainly have one beast at the end wearing a custom hockey mask that would fit them.)
Scenes - Various cabins, mess hall, arts and crafts, rec room, boat house, near the end the cabins would be burning (Fog, lights and fiber optics to pull that effect off.)
Fairy Tale Asylum (Ice Palace/new warehouse) - This is a maze I'd kill to do anytime, it's a fusion of two themes that have always been strong fan favorites of any Halloween event.
Scenes - Cells of various characters, The white rabbit with clocks everywhere and numbers carved into his body, Little Miss Muffet who keeps seeing spiders everywhere.
Farther on the Mad Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse are in a tilt room where gravity is awol. (A seperate ADA accessible bypass path would have to be built in order for this room to be allowed.)
Over in the sick ward is Sleeping Beauty, who's being taken care of by Nurse Malicifant (either in her normal or dragon form)...and Little Bo Peep, with a lot of rabid sheep (On the pluse side, they're not lost!)...and wolf in sheeps clothing somewhere.
The characters from Wizard of Oz are here too, the scarecrow is quite happy giving lombotomys (especially to Dorthy), the Tin Man is in control of doing electroshocktherapy, and the not so cowardly Lion is having vanity issues...he loves tearing pretty faces off. The Wicked Witch is there as well, with quite a pair of ruby slippers...and yes, her %^&*@$#$ flying monkeys are there as well...watch your head!
The chesire cat is somewhere there as well, past the "Keep on Smiling!" poster and admist a flurry of directional strobe lights. (In the mix are blacklight strobes, the only ones that'll reveal Ches for a few seconds as he's in your face.)
Finally, maximum security. Home to The Beast, Queen of Hearts, Papa Bear and the Big Bad Wolf. They'll make sure to remind you that a happy ending here is just plain crazy.

So I've noticed the Scarywood webpage has been updated. Terror Canyon will have a freak farm theme this year and a new maze has been added in the form of Mind Warp the maze. Sounds like Mind Warp will be a maze based on disorienting people which would be pretty cool. I mentioned a desire for such a maze in my first blog on Scarywood and felt Terror Canyon fit this mold pretty well last year. I can't wait to see what they do with a maze designed for this specifically. Also seems that they're advertising new surprises for both Blood Bayou and the Zombiewood express

It should be very interesting to see how Mind Warp - The Maze is pulled off, if it's chock full of special effects/disorientation scares and actors...then it could be really awesome! I'm going to guess it's in the Picnic Pavilion, and I'll also guess the "Vortex" is a Vortex Tunnel. When done right, a VT will throw your senses outta whack very easily, so it would be very fitting. Here's all the desc's for the mazes MIND WARP - THE MAZE "You will lose your way in the dark mist of the ALL NEW Mind Warp, the maze. Fear waits at every missed turn to drag you into the shadows, and the only way out is the Vortex!" Blood Bayou"Experience the Blood Bayou with new dark twists. This indoor haunted attraction from your darkest imaginings will challenge reality and keep you scared with every twist and turn of this diabolical scream machine!" Terror Canyon Trail"The Thunder Canyon raft ride will again be drained and converted into the Terror Canyon Trail where you will be stalked by creatures from your worst nightmares. The all new Freak Farm will create a whole new level of fear." ZombieWood Express"Mild-mannered Steam Engine No. 7 will transform into a fortified zombie hunting machine that will take you on an action packed battle that only the fearless will survive. New zombie adventures and scenes will keep you on edge." As jspider pointed out, they're mentioning new surprises for all the returning attractions. Which is a very good thing since that's what all parks should do for any returning maze. The site also announces that Timber Terror will be running backwards again, and that there will be other haunts and scares around the park. (eg, the country carnival scare zone etc.) www.scarywoodhaunt.com/index.php
