One thing I thought was funny about the most recent press release (see www.rollercoasteralley.com/news6.10.07.html) on Avalanche Mountain was the story of how the whole "mountain" theme idea came about. I guess the owner was originally going to just put the ride in with no theming at all, but his wife didn't like the idea and told him to make it into a mountain, so that's what they all decided to do....I guess we know who's running the show at Silverwood!

I never did say anything about my thoughts on this ride after our trip this summer. We went back towards the start of August, and I gotta say, this ride totally rounds out Boulder Beach perfectly. Just the whole expansion in general was great.
Having two wave pools was an excellent idea - I was actually able to enjoy myself in the wave pool instead of having to try and avoid a thousand people.
The new kiddie area was a bit lame...kind of fun to play around in for just a few minutes, but nothing like Poliwog Park. Still, a nice addition. Since the water park covers so much ground, it's nice to have something for kids to do at that end of the park.
But overall, Avalanche Mountain rocked. One of my favorite water slides of all time. It is so fast and wild and crazy the whole way down. Ride it with as many people as you possibly can, because the more weight, the higher up you go on the turns. There were times where I know the raft wasn't touching the slide. It felt like we were going to fall off! It was just incredible. And I LOVED how the rafts were carried up the mountain for you on the conveyor belt - excellent idea! Much better than hauling one of those things up yourself.
So, kudos to Silverwood on the waterpark additions - they made the best part of the park even better. Now they just need to follow suit on the theme park area and put in some good additions there....Tremors and TT are getting old!
