bud i think you know as well as i do that theres not gonna be a new coaster for a while...this waterpark addition was just the excuse they needed to say that they've done something new and now they need a couple of years off. Actually, I really do think we will see a new coaster in the near future. How good the new coaster will be is another question. I have to admit, the whole "hanging coaster" term doesn't sit well with me. Unless it is a B&M invert, I really have no interest in all of the other options that could fit into that category and I can't see them putting in a 15 to 20 million dollar B&M. But, I have certainly been wrong before, so time will tell. I know I've said this before but I would still like to see them add another good woodie from either the Gravity Group or GCI. Better another great woodie than a below average steel coaster IMO.

Well, Silverwood just did their annual re-vamp of their website, and in it I noticed that they named the new attractions at Boulder Beach:
The new kiddie area is called "Toddler Springs", the island in the middle of the two wave pools is called "Cabana Island", and (now, I think this is a bit odd) the big rafting slide is called "Avalance Mountain". This would be a cool name for a ride at disneyland, I think, since everything is about a mountain there, but I don't really think about snow when I think about swimming or going to a water park. Seems kinda odd, but it is a cool name.
I guess there is a water park called "Blizzard Beach"...but that also doesn't seem to fit, either. Maybe it's just me, but I find it odd...

^ Have you ever seen Blizzard Beach? I've been there, and it fits very well, but you are talking about the most highly themed water park in the world. It even has a working ski lift to take you to the top. I agree that "Avalache Mountain" is a bit strange for Boulder Beach though.

No, I haven't been to Blizzard Beach, but I have heard it is the best themed water park out there. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to knock that park in any way. I actually really want to go check it out from all the good things I've heard about it. All I'm saying is that a waterpark or waterslide that is named/themed after something to do with winter and snow just seems backwards to me. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with it, it just doesn't seem to fit. I'd think they'd want to theme it after something more summer-ish. Especially at Boulder Beach.
If they name a slide "avalanch mountain" at Blizzard Beach, that would make a little more sense, but still, the whole concept just seems strange.

Here's a link to some pictures of a currently operating version of a slide like Avalanche Mountain. It's called "L Oxygenarium" and it's in Paris, France. I think the name is hilarious. english.rides.nl/attractie/info/176#913Equally hilarious is the entrance to this ride...a giant nose and mustache....seriously folks! People say it's pretty fun, but that you don't get wet on it at all. Anyway, I've been trying to find out more info on these rides, and from what I can tell there is another one in Texas, but I can't seem to get any info on that one. I'm also unclear as to if this is even the same type of slide Silverwood's getting, but I'm pretty sure it is based on the recently posted photos that were just put up: www.rollercoasteralley.com/upcoming.htmlAnyone else got any additional info?

Still going under the presumption that I'm looking at the right ride here...but I found two more versions of this ride that are in the US - Penguin's Blizzard River in Washington, DC at Six Flags America and Diablo Falls in Texas at Six Flags Astro World. Both are basically the same ride - very un-themed and lame looking. The Paris one looks much better than either of these two, and it looks like Silverwood is putting the effort in to make Avalance Mountain nice, too. Diablo Falls - Six Flags Astro World: www.themeparks.ie/northamerica/sfaw/dbf1.htmPenguin's Blizzard River - Six Flags America: www.negative-g.com/SFA/SFA-2005-4.htm(Scroll down to see a few shots of the ride)

So yeah, I'm basically a moron...I was looking at the wrong type of slide this whole time. Avalanche Mountain is one of these: www.whitewaterwest.com/Slides/Family%20Raft%20Ride.htmlThis makes more sense as this is actually a waterslide...you know...instead of a theme park river rafting attraction...makes more sense that they'd actually be putting in a waterslide...in a water park...yeah...that's why I was confused this whole time...oh well. Sorry if I mixed everyone up here!

New set of pics look great. I've got to say that Avalance Mountain looks INCREDIBLE. I can't believe all the work they've done in theming this thing! They could have cheaped out with some stupid metal frame but to build an entire themed mountain is just awesome. Can't wait to ride it this summer!!!

I agree with you on the theming - I think the slide looks great, and I think it's awesome that they put so much into it. I'm way excited to head out there this summer and ride this thing!
The other day, I saw a commercial for Silverwood on TV - they're really pushing the whole "20th Anniversary" thing. But I was suprised that there was absolutely NO mention of the water park expansion in it at all! Kind of funny that they aren't really promoting this expansion that much, but whatever. The ad really got me excited to go back for the summer though. Can't wait!
