Hello all, this will be the main thread for this years Scarywood. Now while the main details for the event have yet to be announced, something interesting has already happened. When Silverwood put up the special events page, we quickly learned the event will be every Friday and Saturday of October from 6PM to 12AM. Now I just took at look at the events page, and it looks like they just added more dates! The event will now include every Thursday and the 27th (Wed.) which will run from 6PM to 10PM. www.silverwoodthemepark.com/events-deals-fl.php?L2=yesEven though the attractions have yet to be announced ,it looks like this year will be much bigger then before. Though remember, there is a rumor that there will be two new attractions.

I think this thread should include some Scarywood Fan Frightion. I think we all agree that the MidFright Express was not very good and was even corny with the Conductor singing the Adams Family theme at the end so here is my idea on a reimagining of the MidFright Express.
The train station would be set up as a run-down abandoned station with newspaper articles reporting on how the train was hijacked by robbers and crashed deep in the Silver Woods killing all of the passengers. There would also be an actor who would play an old creepy train station manager who would interact with the guests as well as informing them of the legend of how that same train is still taking passengers into the Silver Woods even though it crashed years ago. The guests would board the train and there would be no conductor when they got on. As soon as everyone was on the train there would be a group of zombies that attack the train and they would be chased off by an actor who shoots at them and this character then would serve as the host role as the train departs into the tour of the Silver Woods. The actor would then tell the guests that he was the only survivor of the fatal crash and he was taking the train to some sacred ground to obtain the key to everlasting life. The train would then stop at the robbery show area which is now the sacred ground. The robber would try to steal the object that would grant him his wish, but he is confronted by the spirit of darkness who summons minions that sacrifice the robber. The evil god would turn his attention to the train passengers telling them they were foolish to ignore the people of pure heart(the zombies who attacked the train at the station) who tried to warn them of their doomed destination. As the spirit of darkness tries to destroy the train the guests are saved by a ghost who takes the train out of danger. The train would then continue its journey until it is once again confronted by the Evil Spirit who wishes to slaughter the pasengers but he is interupted by the ghost who announces that he is the Guardian Spirit and he will destroy the Spirit of Darkness. The two Gods battle with the good one winning and then sending the train on its way through the rest of the tour. I think this would be a very creative storyline and it would break the Silverwood norm of having the conductor of the train being the good guy which would be perfect for the Halloween event. Any thoughts good or bad? What are some of your ideas for attractions for Scarywood 2010?

monkeybeast you have quite an imagination. Unfortunately i think the midfright express will remain (for the most part) the same. I think that Silverwood will benefit by keeping one "not too terrifying attraction" that guests can warm up to during their visits to Scarywood. I would expect the new attractions to be scarier, and that this one will remain virtually as-is.

Thanks for feeding my already huge ego. I was very proud to be a part of the first Scarywood and I learned a lot from being there. I think Silverwood's biggest problem is they don't have one person working in management with the charisma and creativity to take them to the next level and I think that is very, very sad.
I agree that the train will stay pretty much the same because I think it's consdered more of an attraction than an actual haunt. I hope they come up with an interesting storyline that features some type of character that they can use to market the next chapter of Scarywood. I truly believe that this will be an important year for Scarywood's long term future as an event at Silverwood.

I think the train needs to have the audio changed on it so it isn't so corny this year. I would like to see them do something different with the trestle as well. Maybe put a graveyard out either side for some scenery. It's a pretty good open space that they could put static displays in with some great theater lighting. I'm looking forward to it again this year! Keep up the good work Silverwood.

I think it's cool that they added some extra days, but I'm still bummed that they're not open during the day - that's not going to make for any good coaster riding time! I'm also still surprised that they aren't open on Halloween night...strange.
Monkeybeast, I think your idea is interesting, but to be honest, you lost me when you got into the whole 'battling gods' thing...seems a little too "Greek-mythology-ish" and not exactly Halloween-ish. I do agree that the train needs to be improved a bit to be less corny. Mainly they should improve the narration - some of the lines were just cringe-worthy...I, too, hated the Adams Family song at the end - whose idea was that??? What a terrible way to end a ride...I also think he should have talked less...would have made it more scary.
Personally, I'd love to see them actually do something with the giant spider thing they kept talking about when you were going through the woods on the train. Nothing ever happened on the ride with the spiders, so it was really anti-climactic. I could see them doing something pretty sweet with that.
I would also like to see them do something to the log flume - that could be turned into a very cool Haunt attraction. Knott's does that with their log flume, and although Silverwood's is mostly outdoors, there is still that whole section through the trees that they could really do some fun things with.
Regardless, I am very excited to see what they have in store this year - I think last year was just the tip of the iceberg for this event.

I'm going to continue with some more fan frightion because I don't think we will know anything official until late August or even the middle of September.
Terror Canyon Trail: Journey to the Darkside
Storyline: Guests enter the attraction the same as they did last year and are confronted by the Grim Reaper who welcomes them to the after life and takes them to the cave that begins the maze. The first phase would have the guests encounter sad ghost spirits that are spooky, but not too scary. The second part would feature a cavern full of blood thirsty vampires and vampire bats as well as various zombie characters. The third part would be the nightmare creatures section where all kinds of monsters lurk waiting to feast on the flesh of the guests. The monsters would then chase the guests into the final area which is pitch black and very claustrophobic that begins to fill with fog making it even more unbearable. After a few moments there would be a lound bang followed by a beam of light that would show the way out and provide the opportunity for the guests to exit the World of Darkness and re-enter the normal world.
My Final Thought: I liked Terror Canyon last year, but like the entire Scarywood event it lacked a storyline. I think the storyline I created would fit well with the current lay out as well as using characters for a specific purpose instead of throwing out a random group of scareactors to just roam around.
I have two more original ideas that I will post and then I'll talk about the scare zones as well as an idea for a storyline for next years Scarywood. I have enjoyed reading the other ideas posted here and I hope to see more soon.

I was going to continue with some more Scarywood ideas, but I have some BIG news: Silverwood has released some info for Scarywood 2010.
This is all official and the source is a July 10 article in the Spokesman- Review.
The train will return with a haunted theme as will Terror Canyon.
New this year is a swamp attraction that has yet to be named that will be located in the museum area.
Silverwood has also spent one million dollars to improve Scarywood and have also purchased several items from Gore Galore a Halloween haunt production company based in Chicago. I am very impressed with Silverwood so far, I think they have learned from their mistakes from last year.

Here's the link to the Spokesman review article. www.spokesman.com/stories/2010/jul/09/scarywoods-new-features-foreshadow-frightful-fall/A million dollars to improve the event? Oh yeah, Silverwood is certainly making sure to one-up itself. Ok, so we know they will be using the train and Thunder Canyon once again. As for the currently un-named Swamp attraction, I'm going to take a guess it'll be in the ice palace warehouse. UPDATE- I contacted the park and they confirmed the warehouse of the Ice Palace is the location of the attraction. None the less, the swamp is the new attraction...and I have to say Silverwood made a good choice on getting stuff from Gore Galore. GG makes some really nice big creature costumes, just take a look at their site and try to guess what you might see at SW this year. (Personally I want to see the "Swamp Beast" character at SW.) www.gore-galore.com/

It sounds like Scarywood is paying the bills. They wouldn't dump another $1million into this event if it wasn't bringing the returns. And those returns hopefully will translate into a new ride(s) in the next year or two...
