We were going to go opening weekend and had to cancel last minute. I think we may end up going on Father's Day as the water park will be open and I get in for free!

I went up just yesterday for the Physics Day thing. I went with my Materials Science class, and a bunch of other physics and engineering classes from my school. It was really fun, lines weren't too bad, but my trip was essentially ruined by one thing. Aftershock was closed. The reason for closure? Wind. It was barely breezy to us on the ground so none of us could understand. However later when I rode Panic Plunge, as we reached the top we could feel the wind really gusting and the tower was moving in the wind (which only made PP scarier).
The place looked good, nothing new that I noticed. Waiting in line for food and drinks took forever as usual. So it's all the same.
I just wish I could have gotten on Aftershock...I rode it last year and I talked it up to all my friends, then we couldn't ride it. But I'll be back this summer...senior trip!

Hey Eric, I'm sure you were one of the people I spoke with down at the entrance to the courtyard on the 20th. Yeah, it was unfortunate that Aftershock could not run that day, but I'm glad you were able to see how gusty it can get at that height. It was a bummer for not only me, but the rest of the crew that we couldn't run it.
Personally, I think that if Aftershock's towers were built just a bit higher, and did not use a catch car but rather a chain on Tower 2, wind wouldn't be that much of an issue.
Anyway, thanks for posting Eric! Hope we can have Aftershock running when you come back for your senior trip. What month will that be, btw?

Not that this adds to the discussion at all, but in response to the question.....no....I have not been up yet. Will go later this summer. ;D

I think if Aftershock (Deja Vu) used a chain instead of a catchcar, the train would slip off because of it's high slope. The wind affects the speed of the ride, and it can't reach the catchcar to catch on.

Went up over Memorial Day weekend - crowds were larger than normal but I am sure it was due to the weather - in the high 70's (it's normal for it to be rainy, cold and windy on this weekend in past years). Anyway, not many complaints other than the usual one train per wooden coaster issue and that Aftershock doesn't open when the park does (read my review of Aftershock). The river raft ride seems to be neglected a bit as none of the waterfalls were working and there was crap everywhere in the water. Nick Norton's magic show was just OK this year as it came to a grinding halt when he sat down and did some close-up card tricks with 2 audience members on stage. It seemed to go on forever and the trick was not that imprssive. He picked it up through the last half of show and was still very entertaining. OK - here are my wishes for this park - 1) Put a dark ride in 2) Add things to look at on the train (the stale jokes and the staged show are really terrible) Add a tunnel, animatronic animals, anything!!! 3) Add a wild mouse roller coaster in Coaster Alley (these are not too expensive and don't take up much room) 4) Add a train station on the other side of country carnival 5) Provide better pizza were Nick Norton performs (I'm sorry but if I am going to pay almost $20.00 for a med. size pizza than it should at least have some flavor). 6) Allow campfires at campground across street (we NEVER stay there because of this but would if you could enjoy a comfy fire and roast some marshmellows). In conclusion, this is still a clean, friendly and inexpensive park to visit a couple times this summer and well worth the drive (I live in the Tri-Cities). I will be going back later this summer to enjoy the waterpark!

Agree with you on Aftershock, but this is by no means the only park in the country with this problem. Lots of parks delay major rides until 30 minutes or so after the rope drops. I don't agree with it, but it happens.
The waterfalls on Thunder Canyon were most likely a factor of the time of year. I don't think most raft rides turn those on until summer is in full swing.
Sounds like a good trip overall.

Sounds like a good trip overall. When it comes to Aftershock, it just depends on when we can get up there in the morning. Somedays we can open on time, sometimes it's up to 30 minutes after. It's just one of those major rides that takes a lot of work. As for the waterfalls on TC, they were on today when I was in the park, so I believe it is some sort of a summer thing. I think we wait to turn those on when we go to daily operations. jackxl, if the junk in the water you are referring to is that white cotton, blame the cottontrees in the park.

Hey yeah you probably were the person I talked to about the ride! I'm possibly going in like a week and a half...but considering I haven't really made plans, that trip may not happen. However I'm probably going to go some other time in June. When is the best time to go? Or does that always change?
