This is something I've been pondering for a while, we all know SW will expand like any other park. The question is, what will be the fate of the Airplane runway? Since it's been closed to the public because of Boulder Beach, it seems like that's now prime area for expansion.
Now I know chances are it would be torn down, but wouldn't that disrupt events like Excelerator if it's gone?

I would Imagine the park would build to the North and West beyond Boulder Beach, that way they can keep what it left of the runway for Special Events. This would also even out the crowds a bit more as the park is quite ride heavy on the south end.

i think they could easily expand in a continued U-shape "around" the airstrip. i don't think gary norton wants to give that up since it was basically his pet before the theme park. i think that it would take silverwood falling into new ownership for the airstrip to go. true it's not public anymore but it still is used by the norton's and their closest friends. i guess perhaps they could remove the exsiting airstrip and build a new one somewhere else.

^True, the way I see it the Airstrip is one of the things that add to the park's charm and make it unique. If they don't build around the airstrip and take it down, I would like the idea of them building a new one so they still have one. That and they can continue with special events that use the strip, not to mention they could open it back to the public if it's in a safer new area.
Plain and simple, don't do the Cedar Fair method of ripping the charm from the park.

well said. i don't want to see sw become another knott's and we all know how that story goes.
sw's charm lies with things like the airstrip, the skating and magic shows, and the main street cinema.
unfortunately most parks are driven by the bottom line and these type of things normally don't contribute to that so they are often the first to go.

I don't think the airstrip is usable anymore. The building of Boulder Beach finished it off. It is no longer listed by the FAA as an airstrip. It use to be registered as S62. Now if you look up S62 you get nothing. On my most recent chart it is marked as Abandoned.
It is a shame to loose yet another wonderful airstrip.

^I believe the Norton family uses this as well as their personal friends. However it is no longer a public airstrip. That said, I think they would still want SOMETHING for their planes and thus if the airstrip had to be altered I think we'd see a new one built in a different location. I don't think it disappears all together.
