So now that the subs are (almost) open, the focus at DL obviously returns to the track above tomorrowland and the lack of motion for several years now.
A couple of quesitons: first, what would you prefer: a slower, more "sight-seeing" style ride like the Peoplemover, or a high-speed attraction such as the Rocket Rods?
Second, how do you feel about the talk of an Incredibles-themed pod type attraction? Do all the cartoon based rides "dumb down" tomorrowland or is this just the inevitable future?
Thoughts?...

Okay, first I will say that, despite what most others think, I actually liked the Rocket Rods. I didn't like how much they broke down, but I always thought that the idea was very cool. It's unfortunate that they weren't able to actually make the ride be what it originally was supposed to be like (with banked turns, etc.), but I think overall it was a good idea. I don't know which type of ride I'd prefer, but if they're going to do a high-speed ride like the RR's, I'd say they definitely need to do it right this time. But overall, with how much of a flop the RR's were, and how much everyone hated them, I'd say they should do something different. The Screamscape guy suggested a Vekoma booster Bike ride themed to the Speeder Bikes from Return of the Jedi. (see some very silly concept art at www.screamscape.com/html/disneyland.htm) While I think that would be pretty sweet, I can totally see people saying things like "ugh...it didn't work last time to do a fast ride, why are they trying this AGAIN! " So, I think the idea of doing an Incredibles type attraction would be pretty cool. Also, they could make it so the pods could spin around so you could look at things from all angles. And I don't think that would dumb down tomorrowland at all. Personally, a lot of stuff in the Incredibles movie seemed kinda "futuristic" anyways to me. I don't know why everyone is so mad about all the Pixar stuff. Disney has always themed rides to their movies. And so far, I think that the Pixar rides they've done have been great. I love Monster's Inc and Buzz, plus the Bug's Land in DCA is great. And from what I hear, the Nemo ride is going to be awesome (and I think it's a perfect fit for the sub ride), and this Toy Story Mania ride sounds like it's going to be awesome, too. After all, they could just do nothing, then people'd REALLY be mad! So, that's where I stand right now.

pixar based rides are so not what disney is all about - unless you are talking about fantasyland. tomorrowland is not supposed to be full of cartoon characters!!!! even the 1998 tomorrowland with the rocket rods understood this basic disney principle...

styvx, you're sounding an awful lot like some of the folks over at Laughing Place! Since I never have the guts to take out my frustrations on them, I'll just do it here... <<pixar based rides are so not what disney is all about - unless you are talking about fantasyland.>> Um...last time I checked there are no pixar based rides in fantasyland. I'm guessing you meant cartoon based rides? And BTW, I never said that cartoon rides is "what disney is all about", I was just making the point that for disney to base a ride off of one of its cartoons is nothing new. Some people act like it's never been done before. <<tomorrowland is not supposed to be full of cartoon characters!!!!>> Says who? Please help me out here - tell me who it was that decided this??? <<even the 1998 tomorrowland with the rocket rods understood this basic disney principle...>> Basic disney principle? What are you talking about? What are the "Disney principles" that the DLR is supposed to be following? And who wrote them? I'm sorry, but it's posts like the one above that I just do not get!

If it fits a futuristic theme, then I would say a cartoon based ride in Tomorrowland would work perfictly well. I mean, they did have a show you may all remember called "America Sings" in Tomorrowland that ran for many years that was full of rediculous charecters and had nothing to do with the future. Buzz Lightyear is a great fit for Tomorrowland and I think The Incredibles would fit also.
As far as the Rocket Rods go, I really don't think they were ever considered a failure as far as popularity. I always saw long lines. They were a failure as far as engineering. That is why they were removed. The structure was coming apart. They were simply shut down because they were unsafe to run any longer. If they put in a similar high speed type of ride, they would have to completely rebuild all of the support.
I always enjoyed he Poeple Mover. It was a very high capasity ride that you rarely waited more than a few minutes for, and it was a nice way to relax for a while.
