Made it to the park this past week...was my first time up there since last August.
The new front entrance looks WONDERFUL. It adds so much to the experience having such a quality entryway and plaza vs. the old entrance which the park had clearly outgrown (and to be honest, always felt a little bit dated). This new entry way - both inside and outside - are fantastic and Silverwood deserves kudos for a great job.
Crowds were light both days and the weather was great. Boulder Beach was wonderful as usual. They have added some covered canopies to the queue for Avalanche Mountain and Ricochet Rapids - with mist sprayers - and that will be very nice for those hot days when the lines are 1+ hour long.
First new thing in the theme park is the train experience...which included a campy Bigfoot sighting (which I found to be both fun and amusing) and a new show out at the "abandoned mine" that was (thankfully) brief compared to some of the shows from prior years. It seems they are getting this whole experience more and more refined each year and they've almost got it nailed.
Next up is the new Barnstormer attraction in (what used to be) Garfield's Summer Camp. (I say "used to be" because all signs stating "Garfield's Summer Camp" have been removed, and probably rightfully so - Garfield is nowhere to be found in this area!) The ride itself (Barnstormer) looks nice, but is far too tame and my young kids (who really enjoy the Butterflyer and Frog Hopper) found Barnstormer "boring" and only rode it once. It's a shame because the area it has been installed in looks gorgeous with wonderful landscaping. Perhaps they will add something more back here in a year or two with a bit more thrills for the little kids.
And of course, the big addition this year was SpinCycle (still do NOT like this name!). Now, I have been on MANY Frisbee rides across the country and found them all to be wonderful rides that (surprisingly) do not make me sick at all. However, I had never been on a FULLY INVERTING Frisbee like SpinCycle so I wondered how it would compare. Wow. I've got to say this was a GREAT ride and I HIGHLY recommend it to ANYONE looking for a very satisfying new type of thrill. It is fun from start to finish, spectacular to watch, and is a great addition to the Silverwood skyline. And, I might add, looking down - upside down - at the TOP of Timber Terror's lift hill - was just INSANE....
To touch on other areas of the park: very happy to say that Tremors was running better and smoother than I have experienced in years, but unfortunately I cannot say the same for Timber Terror - my old favorite - which has gotten to the point where it is almost unbearable. (Wouldn't it be great to see Timber Terror get the Iron Horse treatment?...I mean, Rocky Mountain is just down the street........) Corkscrew is still a classic, and Lindy's is still a fantastic place to grab reasonably priced food that doesn't taste like you are in a theme park. Oh yeah: GO SEE NICK NORTON.
To sum up: Silverwood gets better every year. I am excited to see what they do next!
