It looks like the Puyallup Fair will have a new attraction this fall, though upon learning what coaster they're getting, I wouldn't get excited for it at all. The coaster is the former "Typhoon", made by Top Fun. A company who's coasters are the exact opposite. It started out at Santa's Village in Illinois in 1998 where it became infamous for bashing skulls until the park closed in 2005. From 2006 onwards it laid SBNO until Ray Cammack Show's bought it and opened it at the L.A. County Fair in 2011. But now the Puyallup Fair has it and it'll open in the fall. They're even having a naming contest for it. www.auburn-reporter.com/entertainment/203683181.htmlPersonally, the proper name for this coaster is not family-friendly and hopefully this won't last long at the fair. Some coasters should just stay dead.

Interesting. Based on what you say about the ride, I'm not sure whether to be upset that there will be another roller coaster sitting dormant in Puyallup for all but 3 weeks a year, or the fact that the Pacific Northwest will have yet another painful steel coaster to add to the likes of Corkscrew, Aftershock, and Wild Thing.
Regardless I'll be sure and ride it once to get the credit this fall. I haven't been to the fair since 2011, and I've got to get another ride or two in on the wooden coaster - one of my all-time favorites. It's been kind of interesting since I park every day at the fairgrounds parking lot right across the street from it, I've been able to watch the construction progress these past few months on the last section of the renovation project. Can't wait to ride it again!

^ If you think Corkscrew, Aftershock and Wild Thing are painful...this thing is going to show what pain really is. Personally I've never had a problem with any of the steel coasters up here, but this thing is just poorly designed all over. Heck, this POV from TPR does a good job of showing how messed up this is. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk6VjFbZMdIAn' hearing from those who went on it in the L.A. County Fair, it most certainly didn't improve. Once the train hit's the bottom of the drop it's straight to heck. It should be interesting to see where it goes in the fair, could possibly replace Kersplash which wouldn't be the best of trades since at least that one doesn't try to kill you. As for the much better wooden coaster, it's great to see how the refurb has been going. It looks great and it's still running like it should.

^I know those aren't the roughest steel coasters that have ever existed, believe me. I have been on both Flashback and WindJammer - quite possibly the two most painful coasters ever invented. But the ones we have up here definitely aren't the smoothest, and I think they're giving steel coasters a bad reputation to the average theme park goers in the northwest. Sounds like this one will just keep that trend going, sadly.
Did you go to spring fair? Was the wooden coaster running yet? I couldn't tell if it was finished or not.

Two words...Looping Thunder. Right here in th Pacific Northwest. Makes the other three NW steel coasters you mentioned feel like a B&M hyper. I'm guessing Typhoon isn't going to be any better, but I'll bet it won't be much worse either.

^Good point Skylark - forgot about that one haha. I went to Oaks Park a few years ago and rode that one. It was pretty rough that's for sure!

As a quick update, the fair posted a facebook picture showing the coaster is pretty much compleated. As I thought, it did indeed replace Kersplash.
As for the winning name it'll be "Rainier Rush". I'll admit it's a nice name, but too bad the coaster itself is a waste.

Just noticed that the new coaster is not included in the wristband. If it were actually a decent coaster, that might make sense.
I'll probably go ride it to get the credit, but from the things you've said, Wolfblood, that will probably be the only ride I take on it!

^ The other coasters are included on the dizzy pass, so I'd say it's more due to it's the new big ride of the year and they don't want it being swamped. When Vertigo debuted a couple years ago, it wasn't included on the wristband as well. Personally I thought that was a little strange considering it has a fairly decent capacity at 24 people, that and during the day it had little to no line at all.
