Fall is here and that means SCARYWOOD! I am really excited! So I thought maybe we could begin sharing our past experiences with this awesome haunted theme park and as October progresses and we visit this year, come back and share some more!

As our newest member maybe you should go first? I like hearing Scarywood reviews and stories. Most members here have already posted reviews and such in earlier Scarywood threads. I even posted some video footage of my second night at the event up on youtube (I'm unsure of if I'll record this year or not) www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6BAC3477B5183FCAwww.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6BAC3477B5183FCATo be honest I really regret not capturing the first year when the event was in its prototype form. I think I view documenting its development as a cool idea because it clearly changed so radically between 09 and 2010. If anyone has footage it really would be something worth posting on this site or youtube or something. I'm glad we at least have the pictures we do and I figure I'll try to capture what I can so that I can compare and contrast sometime later down the line (though I gotta work on my camera holding issues) When did you start going?

Last year was my first year. I did see a youtube video that looked to be the beginning. I lived in the area a few years back but moved to Oregon in 07. I heard about Scarywood from family while I was there. I moved back last summer and Last fall I won tickets from a radio station and took my sister and her husband. It was alot of fun although we never got to Blood Bayou:-( the lines for zombie wood express and Terror canyon trail were VERY long. Well worth it though. I have to say, I was most terrified by a jester on a unicycle and the giant spiders in the Terror Canyon Trail. I an very excited to return this year as am actor instead tho!

Interesting, everything I can find seems to be from year 2 lol. I suppose year 2 can be considered the first year that the event was a real high quality deal.
The first year the event was just Terror Canyon and Midfright Express. I remember the overdone prerecorded narriration and lack of effects well. It was so corny and different from the awesome we got when Zombiewood arrived in 2010. Yet as embarassing as it was I figure in 5 years or so it'lll be something to laugh at and make jokes about.
Terror Canyon was their best attraction in year 1. Terror Canyon has also been the attraction to refine itself the most each year. It was awesome in year one but also fairly hodgepodge in theme. Year 2 brought us the girlscouts arc though with them being attacked by cannibals. Last year brought us the girlscouts again but with the much more amazing freak farm element that made the event much scarrier and alot of fun. I also feel that the performances in Terror Canyon were some of the best I've seen.
Blood Bayou's introduction in 2010 was also a big boost to the events status. I liked the tweaks last year but it didn't feel like the king of the event the way it did the first year. Mindwarp was the infant back then and I'm not sure if 3Dementia is the continuation of its legacy or not but I think that the maze idea is probably the next to really get a boost.
I dunno what else to comment on other then the small tweaks like the lighting package that hit the carnival scare zone in 2011 which was pretty neat.

I like knowing the history and how far it's come. Last year all I could say against zombie wood express was the sound system sucked, luckily though they have a brand new one this year! I do wish more zombies would have come on board since that was a fear of mine. I thought mind warp was short and could have been alot better so hopefully 3Dementia is an awesome version of that. At my audition they had a big screen in the office that showed some screen shots advertising for this years scarywood and it looked pretty good! Creepy! The oddities scare zone through coaster ally should spread people out a bit. Clown town doesn't really scare me, I'm not afraid of clowns but I saw some people last year scared to tears!

I hadn't noticed, I think it was the lighting on the train last year that was improved over the previous, in year 2 the lighting was run the whole ride. I think year 1 had the train be dark but the narration was so lame and unending. Scary Jerry was such a goofy idea for a ride that had adult warnings you see . Yet I almost wouldn't mind seeing it lampooned in a setting like the magic theater or somewhere in the clown town area. I'm not sure exactly what 3Dementia is so it could also be a nonmaze but ANYTHING better then Mindwarp will be appreciated. I'm not sure how much oddities will or wont' spread things out so I can't wait to see it. Its something thats felt needed for a long time and it should spread people around the entire park. I doubt it will really do much to decrease the large waits for Timber Terror and Zombiewood Express. Timber Terror just feels like it desperatly needs a two train opperation mode it seems. Zombiewood is going to just be stuck with the waits though.

I just realized some of the videos I was watching were yours! Lol I didn't ride Timber Terror last year. So funny how I like the fear of a haunted attraction but not thee fear of backwards roller coasters lol hopefully it will be open for my attractions "guest" day, otherwise I won't get to try it. At least I get a chance to experience all the haunts on my guest day. Just not sure how great it will be as it is but the full fledged thing. Oh well, I'll take what I can get! I imagine theres nothing like the experience if scaring the pants off of people and getting paid to do it lol

They're two very different kinds of thrills. I enjoy both. Silverwood's coasters arn't too intimidating once you've been to a park like Six Flags Magic Mountain. But they're amazingly fun. Timber Terror is one of my favorites just because of the airtime it has.
And yeah, I'm pretty happy to see my Terror Canyon video pop up early on in youtube searches. I almost didn't post that one because I was embarassed of how I didn't capture most peoples faces. I'm hoping to do a little bit better next time with my recording but a bunch of friends told me I should post it anyways.
The only thing I haven't posted is the first half of Blood Bayou because once I got off the elevator I was asked to turn off my camera and I'm still not completely sure why that was (maybe I should've asked but it was the most startling thing of the night to have three security guys waiting for me specifically when I exited the elevator segment).
I'm not sure if it was a safty concern or Blood Bayou is just one they don't want recorded specifically. I figure I might post my video in a year or two when Blood Bayou has changed more significantly. (since my goal is to document the event as it changes)

Media Day at Scarywood was always fun. The first year on MidFright Express the performers who were playing zombies during the sacrifice scene accidentally abducted a newspaper columnist off the train instead of the actor who was supposed to be the victim. MidFright Express was retooled after this mistake which resulted in it's delay in opening. In 2010 I fell off a raised level in Blood Bayou almost breaking my ankle. Good times.
