In case you missed it, Screamscape posted what they are claiming to be exclusive concept art of Maverick, CP's new coaster. check it out at www.screamscape.com/html/cp_-_maverick_0.htmI'm not sure that there is enough detail yet to really figure this thing out, but it looks interesting to say the least. Thoughts?

Looks like yet another great ride for that park. The "95 degree drop" really sounds interesting. I think its cool though how after the first drop the ride does a launch. Sounds like a fun ride! It looks like it's by intamin...correct?

Announcement has been made. Maverick is official. Chack out all the details here. The concept art looks great and I love the videos. The launch tunnel in the middle of the ride is a great touch also. This thing looks awesome.

There's just one thing that I noticed today that I don't like. The trains are only three cars. Twelve people total. That is a very small amount of people. Hopefully the have designed the ride to be able to dispatch trains quickly. But, I guess if anyone can do it, it's Cedar Point.

Some thoughts now that the ride specs have been revealed:
What a statement by CP. I love that after years of "biggest, tallest, fastest" they pull way back and go for a mid-sized booster coaster with good theming and a ton of great elements. The super overbanked turn is very cool. I like the zero g roll right over the water. And the slow down to 5 m.p.h. in the dark before the second launch is also a great idea that I'm sure will be a ton of fun.
You also have to admit that an ejector at the top of the launched lift hill into a 95 degree drop is going to feel pretty intense.
The short trains? I like the originality of the idea but I'm with you skylark in that I hope it doesn't kill the ride's capacity.
Overall it looks like another winner for CP. I have to wonder though - the ride must have shoulder restraints as Screamscape suggested. How are the "new" Intamin restraints being received? To me an OTSR is an OTSR...none of them are comfortable, and I've never understood why they couldn't be softer and have more "give". Is this how the new Intamin restraints work? Does anyone know?

I'm not sure about the Intiman restraints but there is one OTSR out there that is very comfortable and it is the ones used on the B&M Flyers (Tatsu and the S;UF's). WHy they can't design something like this for a standard sit down train I have no idea. They have plenty of "give" and padding, and they fit very secure. Actually I would say they fit far more snug than any other OTSR out there yet they are still far more comfortable. Aside from the B&M restraints used on there flyers, I always though the restraints on X were pretty good too. They clamp around you instead of coming down over your head which makes for a more comfortable fit IMO.

I just looked at the video. This looks like it will be a really fun ride! I agree with bud in that I think it's good they are going away from a "record-breaking" coaster to focusing on theming and the over-all ride itself. Even though this isn't that tall of a ride, etc, it still looks like it will be really good. It looks very long (something that adds a ton of points to a coaster IMO), full of cool elements, and great theming.
One thing I've noticed about the "record-breaking" trend lately, and especially with the "rocket coasters" like Xcellerator and Top Thrill Dragster is that they just don't have much to them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way trying to say that I don't think they're great rides, it just seems to me like they could do more than just the top-hat element with that type of ride. I know they've made a few others around the world that do more than just the launch, and I think I'd really like those rides. Xcellerator is my favorite coaster, but every time I ride it, it just seems to end too quickly. It's nice to see CP getting away from this trend and focusing on the things that really make a coaster great for me personally.
