Screamscape has reported that Lagoon is going to add a new large coaster for 2007 west of the Fire Dragon. I think this sounds great. It's supposed to be a launching coaster with lots of loops, etc. This is what Lagoon has been needing for a long time....Silverwood needs something like this too...

To me Lagoon is one of the strangest parks out there.
It is located right next door to the coaster manufacturing giants, yet they don't have much to brag about. Recently they've added some nice rides, but the park still feels like a giant state fair to me. Lots of asphalt, concrete, and zero theming.
I'd like to see them with a mega coaster like this, but I'd really like to see Lagoon dump a bunch of money into theming and improving the overall experience. Silverwood has a much nicer theme and feel going than Lagoon, IMO.

^agreed, though I still think it will be cool to have a decent coaster there finally. But yeah, the park does and always has felt like a traveling carnival.

Well, Lagoon has now officially announced details about the ride. As rumored, the name of the ride is "Wicked". Details, concept art, and a video can be found here: www.lagoonpark.com/whats_new.phpI think it looks pretty cool. The "half-pipe" turns are pretty unique, though I used to do stuff like that all the time on RCT. One thing I noticed that made me very happy was that they said there will be no - I repeat NO SHOULDER RESTRAINTS!!! Just a lap bar. The air-time coming over the top of the hill will be awesome, as well as the heart-roll inversion. I think this looks to be a pretty good coaster and a good move for the park. Thoughts?

I think it looks great! Very similar to a Euro Fighter. It also looks like an insane amount of air time over the first hill. I think we may have to make a trip to Lagoon in 07.

^It's tempting for me as well! After this gets completed this year, they will have added three new coasters since I last visited the park. I'm just not sure if I'll be able to get there this year. This upcoming summer I'm going to check out Wild Waves/Enchanted Village. That'll probably be all I can do. But as for Lagoon, if I can scrounge up the money and some time off, this new coaster could potentially make it worth every bit.

Sure does look like an Intamin...seems like a lot of designers are shifting towards that type of track these days.

The official Lagoon website is showing off Wicked trains that have now arrived, as well as (and this is my favorite part) their two dark rides are being refurbished with new effects and props.
This is great news for a park with two classic dark rides that have aged terribly over the past decade or two. Terroride and Dracula's Castle were once fun dark rides with some good scares but the last time I was at Lagoon (which, mind you was 5+ years ago) they were in sad shape. I had read they had only gotten worse.
Lagoon seems serious about getting the park in top shape for 2007. I suspect they realize that for the first time ever they are getting serious attention on a national level with Wicked.
I've got to figure out a way to get down there in 07. They've got too many good rides now to pass up.
