Spent a couple days there with family, and had a great time. Things have sure changed a lot since I was there last (about 8 years ago when I was in high school).
I'm one of these weirdos that doesn't go to Vegas to gamble and drink - I just go for the rides! So, here's my report:
I skipped out on Manhattan Express, which I guess is now just called "The Roller Coaster at New York New York"? Kinda lame, but whatever. Last time I rode it it had aged terribly, so I didn't want to waste my time. I figured I'd ride it if I had some free time and I didn't end up with any time.
Went out to state line to ride Desperado and the Log Flume at Buffalo Bills. Both were just as I remembered. Desperado has a great first drop, and a sort of 'ho-hum' rest of the ride. The Log Flume is nicely themed, but both times I rode it my gun had a low battery and would only work if I held it right next to the targets. Still fun though.
Speed was just as great as I remember it - probably my favorite coaster in the Vegas area. They are only running it every 15 minutes, so it was a slow wait, but great ride!
And, of course, I did the stuff on top of the Stratosphere. I'd ridden Big Shot before, but the other two rides were new for me. X-Scream (the one that rolls out over the edge) was one of the scariest rides I've ever been on, but man what a rush! Insanity was also scary, but I didn't think it was quite as bad as X-Scream. It was just disorienting - made me kinda dizzy, so I was a bit more distracted from the fact that I was over 800 feet above the ground. Both great rides though - I can honestly say I have not been that scared to go on a ride since I was 8 or 9 years old. They weren't as bad as I worked myself up to think they were going to be, but they were definitely very intense rides - not for the faint of heart!
As a side note, I saw Mystere - my first Cirque show. Very different, but really enjoyable and well worth it. I would really like to see some of the other Cirque shows now, and I'd highly recommend it if you haven't seen one before. Some of the stunts they perform were just amazing!
All in all a great trip - I wish it had been a day or two longer, but it was still fun for the time we were there. Now I can start getting really excited about the Silverwood Halloween event!
