so do you really consider things like kersplash (puyallup fair) and log ride at enchanted forest to be coasters? i know rcdb says yes but i'm not so sure.
anybody know the guidelines? do things like survivor the ride fall into the category of coaster as well? i mean they run on rails.
this is the great debate of course, but i love getting peoples thoughts.

When it comes down to Kersplash, I consider it a water coaster. Plain and simple, the cars are connected to a track even during the splashdown and flume parts. Not to mention the large drops after the chain lifts pretty much make it a coaster. Though ironically, this year may be Kersplash's last at the fair. It's on a major carnival ride sale website with it being avalible October 1st. Not to mention if you look around you can find the Haunted House that used to be at the fair for sale as well. www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=1081

didnt know that. too bad. i always considered kersplash and all the coasters at the fair to be so unique and old school. of course theyll replace it with something new and much more generic.

However I admit I won't miss it since that was my least favorite of the coasters. That and when you look at the space that will be available when it's gone, there are plenty of possible new rides they can put in it's place. As for the new attraction or attractions being generic, we will have to wait and see. The Fair has brought in a good amount of attractions you really can't find at any other fairs in the Northwest and heck the whole United States. (Inferno, Jumping, Monster Mouse, Coaster Thrillride, Extreme Scream, Crazy Beach Party (Unfortuntly Huss kinda screwed the chances of the Fair buying it.) )

I guess I'd say Kersplash and the Log Flume at EF are coasters, but barely. But I'll gladly take the credits!
Re: the fair. What ever happened to Crazy Beach Party? Wolfblood it sounds like you have some insight.
Also, can anyone comment on what type of ride Jumping is, exactly? Is this a Huss Jump?

Re: the fair. What ever happened to Crazy Beach Party? Wolfblood it sounds like you have some insight. Also, can anyone comment on what type of ride Jumping is, exactly? Is this a Huss Jump? That I do, though I will say it may not be the whole story. Apparently the Fair wanted to buy it. (For those of you that don't know, the ride quickly became very popular...especially at night.) However, the price Huss was giving it was too high for them. While Huss offered to lease it, the problem with that was in the long run the fair would end up paying more then the already too high amount for them to buy it...and that's all I know about the ordeal. Ironically, Jumping is a Huss Jump 1. So I have no idea how that came about when the deal for Crazy Beach Party didn't work. As for Jumping, I have to say it is a really fun ride when it's working properly. Though I have to say this ride doesn't seem to have the popularity CBP had.

Before I give my opinion, YES, I have the log flume from EF listed in my ride count below, but that is simply because it was on the list and I like to show everything I have been on at each park. Having said that..........
I don't count any of those rides as coasters. To me, having a "section" of coaster track in a water ride doesn't make it a coaster, it makes it a water ride with a section of track in it. If you count the log flume at EF as a coaster then you would have to count Splash Mountain as a coaster too, as it has the exact same type of dip in the middle of it. I can see more of an argument for Kersplash but I would still not count it. Of course this is just my opinion. I really don't care what someone calls a coaster or not. It is all just for fun anyway as I see it.

I think I'd count them as coasters, but you bring up a good point about Splash Mountain - hadn't thought about that one.
Overall, I agree that in the end, it doesn't matter to me what one considers a coaster or not.
