I just saw this today - apparently a huge fire burned a ton of buildings in the Hollywood Backlot at Universal Studios including the King Kong building and several of the buildings in the courtyard, though apparently the "clock tower" building from BTTF did survive. Quite a shock: www.screamscape.com/html/universal_studios_hollywood.htmThere are several links to pictures on the above referenced page including one that Lance from Screamscape made where he showed a "before and after" shot of the damage.

I don't know why, but Universal has never really excited me at all. I think the tram tour is interesting once about every five years, but other than that, I really find their shows and rides to be pretty mediocre. So this fire is just a "meh" moment for me. I know it shouldn't be, but it is.
I will say I'm glad that the BTTF clock tower is still standing, for nostalgia's sake.

Well this was a pretty big shocker, and not a good way to begin Summer.
Though if there's one good thing to come from it, since Kong was distroyed then a new attraction is going to replace it.
I have to agree with Bud that Universal doesn't excite me. (Universal Orlando however, is one of my favorite parks to go to.)
The problem I have is the lack of attractions, and whenever they have a duplicate attraction with Orlando's...Hollywood usually get's the short end of the stick. (IE The Mummy)
To me the show they have right now are nice, but some of them could use a upgrade or a replacement. For example, to me Backdraft could use a replacement. It's nice, but I get a bigger puch from Twister in USF.
As for the Tram Tour, it's certainly a must do for anyone that hasn't been there before. I can say the Earthquake segment is better then Flordia's Disaster. However the only part in Jaws I see as an improvment over the full-blow attraction in Flordia' s is the diver.
One more thing, The Fast and the Furious segment has got to go. It's alright when the cars fly to the trams, but why they made them dance to a song that honestly wasn't that good when it was popular I have no idea.
So overall, the small space they have is a disadvange to them for new attractions. Right now the only thing that would make me come back is Halloween Horror Nights, I've never been to it but I've heard very nice things about it. (Though ironically I'll probably be heading to Orlando's HHN since it's just been given out that Scary Tales and Body Collector's are comming back this year.)

The worst part is the footage they lost. They claim to have duplicates....hopefully. Kong although a financial loss is no real loss to the park being outdated and all. I am going back to USH in October for Halloween Horror Nights. If it weren't for that I may never go back because the price is so high with so few attractions. Even the Orlando Universal kinda sucks, Islands of Adventure though is alot of fun.
