so someone here had to ask it and i guess that someone is me. do you think this is really as bad as they are saying or is this just overreaction by hard core disney geeks. or is there something bigger here such as a company that really has lost its vision.

Yes, I am upset about it. Reason? I don't like the ride to begin with (gets a little old after a while), and now that cartoon characters are in the ride, it will attract more kids to ride it more often it thereby requiring me to ride it even more when I have my own kids. Okay seriously though, I will say that I think they are kind of messing with a classic ride. And when the family that did the original artwork for the ride personally doesn't want the cartoon characters in there, I think Disney should respect that wish. No, I'm not one of these purists who thinks that everything should remain the same. I love many of the new rides that have cartoon themes (Buzz, Pooh, Monsters, Nemo), and I think Toy Story and Carsland are going to be awesome. I do think small world needs an upgrade, but I think this is kind of a dumb way to do it, since it is the 'original' small world attraction. Maybe an upgrade to the current AA's that are in the ride; an upgrade to the sets; make the ride look better than it does; make it look more impressive (i.e. small world holiday). Cartoon characters just don't seem to fit in this case. And no, I don't think Disney has quite lost its vision.

I think there are too many people who like to lash out at Disney before they have any clue as to what the park is up to. Remember the Pirates changes? How many people freaked out about that, and then went back and ate their words when they saw how much it freshened up the ride. Granted, you can't satisfy everyone, but most were happy with what was done.
I don't think people have any clue what the Small World changes will really look like. So to jump all over this is going a bit overboard in my opinion.

Ok, I'm going to keep this short and simple since my computer went on the fritz before I could post my long version about this. Plain and simple, I have seen videos of HKDL's Small World and honestly...for me it's not that bad like some people are making it out to be. The characters are mostly done in the style of the rest of the dolls, and only a few felt really forced on the attraction. (Cinderella and Prince Charming) As for the others, some are easy to spot while others you kinda have to look for in the background or up high. For everyone that's really flipping out and going the total Disney purist way of saying "Walt wouldn't do this etc." (Thankfully no one on here is like that.) Chill down, Walt Disney did welcome change...heck if it wasn't for him overhearing about people not wanting to ride Jungle Cruise again because they have already seen everything on it...then it wouldn't have gotten the jokes we all know and love and love to hate. Oh yes, here are the videos I've seen for HKDL's Small World. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jpmxJF0GrQPart 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZKPNeQspWE&feature=relatedPart 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeQELIwXcY0&feature=relatedPart 3: www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_BY_CCc4o0&feature=relatedPart 4: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD2v9xkil6c&feature=related

I can't stand the ride, so it really doesn't matter what they do to it. I've been on Disneyland's, but I skipped Magic Kingdom's and let my family ride it without me. - Barry

I am a huge Disney fan I really wouldn't care if they tore the thing down. It is a terrible, outdated, boring, way too long ride. Disneyland has a long history dating back well before Walt died of removing rides and putting in something better. If adding some characters makes the ride even a little more enjoyable then I'm all for it. I rode it for the last time about three years ago for my kids who were still young enough to care. Well, the last time until I have grandchildren, anyway.

Skylark you make me jealous. I've still got MANY more rides on this thing before I get a (well-deserved) break. Somewhat off-topic, but I think Disney geeks are WAY too hard on the park. I mean, you plant a flower in the wrong place and they start whining. Anyway, I usually really like the changes this park makes and think the IASW changes will be just fine, whatever they decide.
