Blu-ray is now the only high-def DVD on the market. I'm glad I love Sony.

...and me, I hate Sony. Everything I've ever bought from Sony has broken within 1 year. I have worked for several years to make my house "Sony-free" and now it looks like I am going to lose that battle too. Oh well, someday in the not-too-distant-future there will be a new format to replace Blu-ray and I'll be happy again.

I've always really liked Sony. I have had several different brand camcorders and Sony is all I will buy now. Likewise, I have owned three different Canon digital cameras and was always happy with them, until I bought my Sony. Far superior in every way to a Canon (except for the memory stick duo. Those are kind of a pain).
As far as Blu-ray vs HD, I have intentionally stayed away from both because I knew one would die. I'm still giving it a while as I really have no problem with the quality of a standard DVD on my LG 42" HD plasma.

I guess they learned from their Beta and Minidisc failures. I too am one who has had every Sony piece of electronics die, except my old playstation ;D. I'll just buy a different brand of player. - Barry

I've always really hated sony, oh well. The true winner is digital storage, as Microsoft has said. The hd-dvd vs blu-ray battle is just fighting for a temporary spot until video streaming and other things online become more easy to use and more widespread. I don't see myself buying a blu-ray anytime soon, I may, eventually, buy a blu-ray burner for storage (up to 30gbs on one disc if I'm not mistaken).

The real reason Sony won the DVD war is obvious! Bush has always held large amounts of Sony stock and is very buddy-buddy with the suits in Sony upper-management. Just another black-hearted corporate blood-wagon railroading the working-middle class with their Nazi-like propaganda! Plus the fact that anything that has the word "war" in it will automatically be something that Bush is interested in! Angry Liberals in 08!!!

It's idiot clowns like you that make me wish Jesus would either come back and save us or kill us all. If you hate this country so much why not move to Iran, China, Cuba (great health care, so great that people use old cars as boats to come to the U.S), Mexico, Saudia Arabia, Russia or any other country that you may like. Theme parks are a place of reality suspension and I would hope their forums would be the same. If you want to talk politics you have plenty of other places to go besides here.

^Whilst I understand your sentiment, methinks this "seniorfroggy" fellow was being a tad sarcastic. I actually found his post to be quite humorous.
That aside, I honestly haven't been following this all that closely, so I haven't really taken a side one way or another. I can say that I've owned a few Sony products throughout my life, and while I'll probably never buy any piece of stereo equipment from them again, I've owned a Sony Erikson cell phone for the past couple of years that has been immensely better than the Motorola I had owned previously. I don't think everything they make is horrible, but some of their products have really been a pain for me.

I thought I would dig up this old thread. I still hate Sony. But for Christmas I bought a new (Panasonic) Blu-ray player. I was very skeptical at first. I saved all my receipts and was seriously thinking I'd be taking everything back to Costco the next day.
After playing a couple of Blu-ray movies on my 50" Plasma TV, I can say without a shred of doubt that I am a convert to Blu-ray. The picture quality is incomparable. We purchased a couple of movies on Blu-ray that we already had on DVD to make the comparison. And I don't think I could go back to watching them on DVD again. The sound quality is great too - I don't notice a huge difference, but I've only got a 5.1 system...for now.
I understand the size of the screen really justifies Blu-ray. Well, 50" definitely falls into the Blu-ray category. If you are considering making the upgrade, I highly recommend it.
