Okay, I finally finished watching the season premier last night (we weren't able to watch it when it aired)...overall I thought it was great!
*** SPOILER WARNING ***
Jacks escape was pretty gross, but I had to kind of laugh at the whole thing...I mean how convenient. As soon as he gets out there just happens to be a car there with a cell phone left in it!
I couldn't believe that Jack had to kill Curtis...I didn't see that coming, but Curtis wasn't being himself at all. Definitely what I thought was the worst moment of the entire premier. And man...Jacks reaction to killing him didn't help at all!
And of course, the nuke actually being detonated was suprising as well. I understand it's raised a bit of a controversy, but I thought it was all very well done. This looks to be a pretty good season, but as Bud said, it'll be hard to top season 5.
I also think it's interesting to see Jack struggling so much. He's mentioned several times that he "can't do it anymore". It's werid to see a character like Jack doubting himself when he's the one we always seem to count on.
Thoughts?

I thought overall the premier was very good. I think the new president is a bit of a stretch but everything else I'm really liking so far. I have seen literally every episode of 24 sense the very first season and I thought season five was by far the best, so, like has been said before, it will be very hard to top that.
I do like the way they are puting a different spin on things with Jack having been changed from his experience in China. Also, the nuke going off should make things a little different from the other seasons. We'll see.

I certainly don't expect this to top Day 5. I mean, let's be honest, it's going to be hard to top that...EVER.
That said, I liked the premier. I think it's interesting that although 24 won all those Emmy's, it wasn't one of the most watched shows on TV. My thoughts are that there are a lot of virgins to the show this season and I wonder what they are thinking after that premier.
Positives (that seem like they will keep this season fresh and interesting): -The nuke going off -Jack's China "experience" -New president (I think he's not going to last in the job long)
Negatives: -Not sold on the new CTU personnel at all -Curtis...how could they kill him off!?!?!

^ I really didn't think it was that big of a deal to kill of Curtis.
Now Tony, on the other hand, I will never forgive them for. After losing him (especially the way they killed him off) I can handle losing anyone left on the show.

Well, a little bit slower episode this week but still good. I was very surprised to find out who Jack's brother is.
Only problem I have with 24 this season, is that it is on the same time as Heros. Oh well, maybe it's time for that DVR. Or I can just keep downloading from iTunes. I kind of like having them saved on my computer anyway.

Agreed that last night's episode was very slow compared with the premier, but I think they did that on purpose. After the nuke and Curtis's death, I think they knew they'd have to tone it down for one or two eposides.
I can't believe they brought back bluetooth guy from last season, and made him Jack's brother! That was an interesting twist, for sure. I'm curious as to how this twist is going to unfold.
The great thing about last night is, my wife and I bought a new TV over the weekend that has a digital reciever built into it, and up here, all the local stations broadcast over the air in analog and HD digital signals. So we got to watch the whole episode in Widescreen HD for free, through an antenna! Just amazing how much technology is advancing. This season is going to be sweet being able to see it in High def.

So...last night was a little bit more interesting than last week, but overall the past two episodes have been pretty slow!
I heard somewhere that Kiefer was doing an interview and mentioned that we'd all be learning more about his family and their past during this season. I'm curious as to what else they'll reveal. It's been interesting so far.
I also think it's interesting that there seems to be more of an emphasis on the more liberal themes these past few episodes (i.e. racial profiling, etc). Since there was such an uproar about the nuke and how the show is some big "conservative fantasy", it seems like they're trying to fight back from that notion by throwing in things like the big fight that Karen and Tom had in last nights episode. I could be completely wrong, but it's just something I noticed, and thought was kind of funny.

That's funny, I've always thought 24 leaned more to the liberal side.
Personally, I think both sides, liberal and conservative, need to chill out when it comes to Hollywood. These are fictional stories people, get a life.
As far as last nights episode went, I really liked it. I think they did a great job casting Jacks father. It was a slower episode agian, but I thought it held together a little better than last weeks.

K, last night was awesome! Definitely bringing things back up to the normal pace. I thought the past few episodes have been a wee bit slower than I'd prefer...but last night was great. I like how they're shifting back towards centering the plot around one person, as they're unfolding the side-plot to get rid of Palmer. I think this is a good move, as it takes the show back towards Season 1 (I never saw season 1, but I have heard from many that it was the best of them all). I'm interested in how that all goes. I liked how Milo got a bit more action time this episode...guess he's more than just a computer geek. I was watching an interview and I didn't know he was in Season 1 for a little bit? Do you guys remember that at all? My prediction is overall that the nuke threat will be resolved before too long (like season 2) and the remainder of the season will focus around the president as well as Jack and Phillip. Thoughts?

This week's episode was the first one this season where I found myself saying: "wow, this is really getting good." I'm not ready to call it on par with Day 5, but it's getting dang good.
