Kings Dominion - Doswell, Virginia Well, as we all know (or at least some of us) Kings Dominion is adding Dominator in 2008. Here is the progress they have made so far.

^It's a great coaster...KD is fortunate to be getting it. One of the best B&M's I've been on. Hopefully the move doesn't screw the ride up too bad...

^ Agreed. Dominator is my personal favorite of the three floorless Beemers I have been on. It will be a great addition to KD as Volcano is the only really great coaster in that park, IMO. Really, aside from Italian Job and Volcano the rest of the coasters at that park are very average. Dominator will really help, adding another great coaster, along with the removal of Hypersonic. That thing was brutal and needs to join Flashback in creating some great new toaster ovens.

^Skylark I never knew Hypersonic was supposed to be a bad coaster...I always thought the TA2K coasters were supposed to be smooth as glass due to the rubber tires? What was the reason it was pulled out so soon and why was it, as you say, "brutal"?

^'Tis an interesting question - I had always heard those were supposed to be really smooth, too.

Unfortuntly, Hypersonic wasn't close to being smooth as glass. It really didn't handle turns very well, so the return back to the station after the hill banged you up pretty good. Combine that with the very short ride time and the long waits, it simply wasn't a coaster I would really wait in line for.
As for Dominator, while I haven't experienced that coaster...I have been hearing very good things about it so it's probably a very good addition for KD.

Everything except the launch was brutal, including the hill. The restraints were poorly desingned for comfort. The air at the top of the hill was painfull and the return was just brutal. Not really sure exactly why. Add that to the fact that it had a VERY low capacity and you had a "ride it once to get the credit" coaster and nothing more.
Hey I'll bet KD is selling it for real cheap. Maybe Silverwood could add it in 09 along side Vu and they could hold a world record for having the two worst capasity coasters in the US. Think of the marketing potential.

^Actually, if they wanted the worst capacity they would need a coaster like Pteranodon Flyers from Islands of Adventure. That ride's capacity is just a little over 200 a hour.
When a coaster's capacity per hour is worse then a fairground ride, that is really bad.

Hypersonic really kinda sucked. Agreed the launch was good, but the rest was rough. Actually alot of the coasters there aren't that great IMO. Volcano, Italian Job, Ricochet and Rebel Yell backwards are the only coaster there I care to ride again. FOF was closed when I was there otherwise I rode everything. From the sounds of it Cedar Fair has decided to run all the racing woodies forward from here on out . - Barry

^ It really is a shame that Cedar Fair is making all of it's racing woodies forward (Though I'm not surprised since CF doesn't know how to run a park very well), I see two problems with it.
1. Since the tracks are mirrored there is really no point on riding the other side even with the racing aspect.
2. For me the backwards section was always smoother then the forward, so unless there is some miracle where it's not rough like the other forward...you pretty much have a really blah racing coaster.
