So I went to SFOG for the first time in seven years on Sunday and it was great. The weather was beautiful, crowds were light, and the park had all rides up and operating (most of the day). Below are my thoughts on the coasters, in the order I rode them:
Goliath: B&M hypercoasters rule. I'm not sure it gets much better than this on a steel coaster as far as pure airtime is concerned. The front was great; the back was insane. Loved every second of this smooth, amazing ride.
Superman: B&M flyer. Never been on a B&M flyer before - only a Vekoma. B&M flyers kick the crap out of Vekoma. Superman was a great ride, and the fact that I walked onto the front seat made it even better. The pretzel loop was the single most amazing inversion I've ever experienced.
Great American Scream Machine: woodie. Old woodie. Painful woodie. Enough said.
Wild E. Coyote Canyon Blaster: fun, short, family coaster.
Dahlonega Mine Train: probably the worst mine train I've ever ridden. The entire ride seemed to be one of the three lift hills.
Georgia Cyclone: woodie patterned after Coney Island Cyclone. Painful. Crap ride. This park has no decent wood.
Georgia Scorcher: B&M stand up. Fun ride. Smooth and comfortable. Nothing compared to Riddler though, but what would you expect?
Mindbender: Schwartzkopf coaster. Two loops. Great use of terrain. NO OTSRS!!!!! This is Revolution before it was neutered. One of my favorite rides at this park. One problem: this was the only coaster this day (other than the Wild E. Coyote coaster) that was only running one train, so the wait was miserable.
Batman: B&M inverted, clone of SFMM. Good rides, always.
Ninja: Vekoma multi-looper. Painful, painful, painful. Great to look at, horrible to ride.
Deja Vu: Vekoma giant inverted boomerang, clone of SFMM. These are fun but in typical Deja Vu fashion, it broke down off and on all day. Took us three tries before finally getting on it.
Summary: The entire day would have been worth it simply for Goliath alone. Superman and Mindbender are this parks other two gems. The rest are basically footnotes. We also rode a great gyro drop, a fun log flume, a train that circled part of the park, and a hilarious water dark ride called Monster Plantation.
