Just got back from the Puyallup Fair, once again I had a great time and interestingly enough I pretty much stayed in the rides area. For this TR I'll keep it short and simple and focus on the new stuff and some changes I noticed. As a heads up, it was just myself so I wasn't able to ride things like the wooden coaster or WildCat. Though the wood coaster looks great with the new wood.
I'll start off with the big shocker of the fair, the Monster Mouse is gone! This is pretty crazy since a few days ago I checked the ride sale website that has Kersplash listed, and Monster Mouse was listed on it as well.

Don't know if it was sold or not, but it was certainly surprising seeing it gone.
In the Monster Mouse's place is a new ride for this year, Vertigo.

Vertigo is pretty much A.R.M.'s version of the Star Flyer ride which has become quite the rage in parks and fairs the past couple of years. Now I didn't go on it since for some reason it's not included for the Dizzy Pass and would only take tickets. Because of that, there was pretty much no line at all for the ride until later at night. I really don't know why it wasn't included in the Dizzy Pass, it's not like it had a really low capacity.
The fair also got a new extreme ride, they replaced the Turbo Force with MAXXX, a ride that's the first of it's kind in the USA.

Maxxx is pretty much a demented swing attraction, it swings you up high and the car you're in is able to freely flip. Though it doesn't flip very quickly, a good reason why is it can pull some pretty powerful forces. Now I did go on this, and I felt it was worth the $15 bucks you gotta' pay. It does give a longer ride then the more expensive Big Sling right next to it. Since I rode with one of the guys that operate it, he was able to help get us flipping pretty good.
As for the other rides, Discothek, Starship 2000, Matterhorn and El Nino were all giving good rides. As for the dark rides of Ghost Pirates and the Haunted Mansion, everything was still working on Ghost Pirates, so it was a good cheesy dark ride, and it seemed everything was working on the Haunted Mansion as well. I still give the edge to Ghost Pirates, mainly due to the horn that goes off when a car is dispatched.
Two very nice surprises went to Inferno and Kersplash, if I recall both did have no single rider rules...however for this year that rule has been removed! So I was able to go on both of them this year.
Finally, Jumping. While the ride is back to spinning like crazy, the backdrop of the ride has deteriorated even more. There are HUGE sections which are now compleatly white and it looks ugly, it really does. I find it really odd since Inferno is also one of the rides that stays year round at the fair, but it looks perfectly fine.
Since I bought a Dizzy Pass, once again I was able to play a game for free. Unfortuntatly I didn't win the rolling ball derby game I'm usually good at, the little kid next to me had some good luck with hitting a lot of the "3 space move" holes.
Last but not least, the food. As always the Fair Crack is always good (The scones.) Not to mention the turkey legs and deep friend oreos. Speaking of fried foods, some of the new stuff that's hit the fair are deep fried mac and cheese, butter, pop tarts, Rocky Mountain Oysters and Kool Aid (Yes...Kool Aid). Just to name a few.
Barbequeue is always a staple at the fair, and this year my family and I ate at Longhorn Barbequeue. One reason we ate there was they had a fair special. $12 and you get a entree', two sides and a drink. Quite a deal considering we saw burger joints with $8 for just a burger and nothing else. We had the Pulled Pork Sandwhich, Chicken and Pork Ribs. All three were quite good, and none of us needed to add any sauce since the meat was that good.
So all in all it was a good day at the fair.
