Looking at the website, they got this message up on the new rides page.

"Due to circumstances beyond Silverwood's control Ricochet Rapids is currently anticipating a delayed opening somewhere in mid to late July, 2011."

^They've had that message up for a couple weeks now. Hopefully it's running when we go this year, but I'm pretty sure it won't be ready. Kind of sad that SW keeps opening new rides so late in the year. I remember when Aftershock didn't open until the mid to late July as well.

I'm with you Voodoobones - it'll be a miracle if summer ever gets here! This has been such a crap-tacular year! Granted, I do live in Seattle, but normally I have my A/C running for most of June, and all of July and August, but this year I've only had it on a couple times. We've been over 80 like...two days so far. Here's hoping for some warmer weather these next few weeks!

Skinnyguy, I just spent the last 4 days camping at the Arlington Fly in. We got there on Thursday and it was pouring rain and cold! I couldn't believe it was July! The weather did finally clear for me to get to go up in an RV-7 to do my first roll and loop as well as a few maneuvers. The weird thing is that the east side was hot. We left Spokane with 84 degree weather and hit 54 degrees in Arlington. This is what we drove into:

Hey RCA Community!

The park has announced that the new slide will open to the public tomorrow at 2pm. We'll be there tomorrow to check it out, and will have more details posted to the site soon!

In the meantime - check out these photos of the slide we took today on our Facebook page!

Enjoy!

Just got back from a weekend at Silverwood. Had a great time as always. The new slide is great - the giant tube section is really fun, and the rest of it feels like it just never ends - I like that it's enclosed because you can't always tell what direction you're going. But I wish there were more to it, like it would be nice if there was a second giant tube towards the end rather than just a slide with turns. That would have been cooler - or making the one tube they do have a lot longer than it is - you only 'ricochet' up the sides twice before it's over. Another thing was I thought the line was really slow for this ride - there's only one place to load tubes (as opposed to two on Avalanche Mountain) so it takes forever. Avalanche Mountain was always a long wait as well, but it at least seemed to move a little quicker.

As for the rest of the park - Tremors was definitely much better this year - they re-tracked a couple sections - the turnaround out by the Roller Coaster Alley sign, and the section right as you come out of the second tunnel. It is definitely NOT 'topper track', but completely re-tracked sections, and it was awesome. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made to that ride! Hope to see more of this on both of the wooden coasters as it was a much welcomed improvement.

The new kids rides were a nice addition, too - the park needs to continue to expand this area of the park for sure. I was also happy to see live narration on the train again - I didn't like the recording at all last year. And the theming everywhere just continues to get better each year.

Couple other random thoughts - the park should really add restrooms over by the Tremors/Timber Terror/Aftershock/Panic Plunge/Sky Diver area. It seems like there are restrooms close by just about everywhere else in the park but that section...so that would be nice. I also think they should move the ice cream parlor from where it currently sits in the carnival area, to the main street area...possibly by the court yard. That would be a perfect place, since they leave main street open an extra half hour at night anyways - people could get ice cream on their way out of the park. Seems like that would be more ideal.

All in all it was a good trip - light crowds this time, but I think the weather helped out a bit there. It wasn't as warm as I would have hoped, but it could have been worse for sure.

You are right, skinnyguy, the improvements to Tremors have nothing to do with "topper track".

Topper Track is the steel track solution installed on the wooden Texas Giant coaster and also being installed on other Six Flags wooden coasters this year. From the reports, it is AMAZING what this track does to a wooden coaster, particularly one that has aged poorly.

Tremors, as you correctly stated, had sections of track replaced/reworked for 2011. This has resulted in a MUCH smoother ride in those areas, and overall has made Tremors a much more enjoyable coaster. It was badly needed and it is great that Silverwood took these steps to get it done.

Though I would love to see Topper Track on either or both of Silverwood's woodies, I am very happy with the TLC Tremors received this past year.

EDIT- Whoops, after looking at the pictures from the recent site update...it really does look like things were just re-tracked. I admit that was my bad.

Though for the Texas Giant, it doesn't have Topper Track. What it has is RMC's "I-box Track".
